Sometimes when the Editing Plane is visible in the 3D Window it can become a bit overwhelming.
Personally I set mine to only display when I am editing – that way I find the 3D Window less cluttered and easier to manage.
To control the settings go to Options> Work Environment> On-Screen Options and set Display Editing Plane during editing operations only (highlighted below) to ON
